A NEW DIG FOSSILS

A TRUE PALEONTOLOGICAL DIG
COME DIG WITH US

A New Dig, Inc. offers an exclusive paleontological fossil dig at our quarry in the mountains of the House Range, in the world famous fossil layers of the Wheeler Shale Formation,  west of Delta, Utah. We supply visitors the proper tools and guidance to accomplish what most people have never had the opportunity to do: to find their own trilobite fossils. The most common species of trilobite we find is Elrathia Kingii, but we also find Asaphiscus, Paranopsis, Brachiopods, and even soft bodied creatures.  This is an outdoor adventure for amateurs and the more experienced science minded treasure seekers of all ages.  Since these layers hold an unread book from over half a billion years old, the approximate time of the Cambrian explosion, we know the excitement of being able to find, hold, and own creatures from the Cambrian Era. Visitors are guaranteed to find fossils.

Our quarry produces black jewelry grade trilobites and museum quality fossil specimens.  These exceptionally preserved Cambrian Era fossils can be found when fresh, unweathered material is uncovered or excavated at our quarry; since the rock is still preserved, large museum quality specimen plates, on hard, dark grey shale, up to a couple feet in diameter, can be found.  Upon weathering for several months or more, the burial rock will crack and pop making collection of loose trilobites and smaller specimens easier. We use an excavator to pull out fresh material and stir old piles, and rock hammers to split shale for collections.  Several digging options are available (Reservations must be made!!! All of the information is here,  Dig Trilobites).
